I’ve been posting articles and YouTube videos 3 times a week for over half a year now. With YT especially, there has been non existent growth in viewership. On one hand its frustrating, on the other its mildly amusing.
I know 6-7 months is just a small blip of time and things are still in their infancy, even so, I’ve been thinking to myself that there is no early traction. Now that I think about it, this is really a short term outlook. Sure it’d be nice to have a sizable audience, I’ve noticed other content creators that have been on the platforms a short time, but have amassed a sizable audience already. Of course that is keeping up with the Joneses.
No One Cared About Zuckerberg
I’ve realized now that once I’ve made it, whatever that means, that’s when everyone will view the content I’ve created. Think of it this way, no one knew who Marc Zuckerberg was when he was a college boy. But if he had created a vlog during his process of building Facebook, now that Facebook has made it, people would be watching that vlog in perpetuity.
By All Metrics: North Vietnamese Were Supposed To Lose
Even if the numbers don’t look good (with Youtube specifically), I’d like to use the Vietnam War as an example. The Americans in the Vietnam War were supposed to win based on all quantitative metrics. They had more:
- Soldiers
- Weapons
- Money
One thing they lacked was the qualitative factor.
The will to fight.
This can be seen by all the anti war demonstrations during the 1960’s bleeding into the 1970’s in the US. The North Vietnamese had less of everything, they weren’t supposed to win.
But they outlasted every obstacle that came their way.
I need to be like the North Vietnemese (all politics aside). Because I believe I’m building something special here, I really do. You just got to keep it macro, a marathon in other words.
It’s not that no one cares, its a matter of working through the process of being discovered.
You pivot when necessary, but you stay the course. You write your goal with a permanent marker, but the steps with a pencil.
For me at least, I know the 50 year old Kingston is watching and I’m going to make him proud.

About Kingston’s Journey Series: Kingston’s Journey is a lifelong series. This is the travel journal I take with me. Whether you have questions such as how to change my life or how to travel the world, I think you’ll find value in the life lessons I’ve experienced and documented in this travel notebook. They may serve as travel inspiration for you. In Chinese, there is a saying, “讀萬卷書,不如行千里路.”
This means, instead of reading ten thousand books, why don’t you walk a thousand miles. This is my inspiration to travel every nation (or as many as possible) in my pursuit of my global MBA by learning as much as possible and recording these life lessons learned only by travel. In the end, I think the achievement of dreams, personal growth & aspirations out there through travel and adventure will lead to a more fulfilling life. Living and experiencing the “now” is how I’ll make my life a great memory in the future.
🙂 All great roads are long – but a long journey is also a beautiful journey (here I am making metaphors in English!).

Yes it is, and I think we all have a long road ahead of us before we get to where we want to go. Just got to enjoy the process.
Your English is great btw.

🙂 Thank you for my English (I learned German at school…) Now that I’ve gotten older (and I’m still on the road…) I wonder if these aren’t the best moments in life

If you enjoy it, forget about the likes and follows, don’t get obsessed with it, do it for yourself. Spend some time engaging with those that reach out to you and also take a chance and reach out to others. People who can relate to your passion will eventually find you through the wider interactions you have 🙂
