Kingston’s Journal: Going the Extra Mile

The nasty cut I got due to my negligence.

June 23, 2019

I got a fairly bad scratch on my left side jaw last week from Must Thai clinching. All a part of the process I guess. I think it’s quite noticeable as my colleagues, students and others have been commenting about it. Because of this injury, I paused on clinching.

On another note, I’ve began using candy and merits should to encourage participation and good behavior from my students. This seems to be pretty effective, I’m a bit surprised on the positive effect it has had because it would not be so effective in my classes when I was a student in grade 7 through 9. I suppose it’s a cultural difference.

I’m also spending most of my lunch trying to help weaker learners. Many of them don’t seem to appreciate me volunteering my time in trying to help them, but no matter as long as they are my students, they are my responsibility. Though I feel a lack of appreciation for the candy and extra effort I’m making, I concede that I was the same way when I was a grade school student. I was never really considerate of the effort they put when my teacher went the extra mile, it’s all come full circle now.

On the dancing front, I feel like things are more or less coming together. I still struggle with learning the beat and being clear with my lead, but I feel I’m starting to pick things up quicker than in the past and things are beginning to click more. I think progress has been fairly solid considering I’ve been doing this for less than 2 months. A long road ahead but I’m going to keep chugging forward.
