Kingston’s Journal: And So It Begins…

I took my first Muay Thai class today. That’s the main reason I picked to come to Thailand first right? To write a book about the different types of martial arts in the world, tentatively called “Fists of Man,” when I’m in my late 20’s to early 30’s.

There was no sparring, which now honestly it is hard to say I am ready for that at the present moment. My limbs, specifically shins and elbows don’t seem up to speed yet based on the bruises I sustained. I’m going to keep working on it for real once I get a little more settled.

I weight myself as well, surprisingly, I’m 57.7 kg, which is just under 127 pounds. I must have dropped 5 or 6 pounds, likely due to undereating, a new environment and the amount I’ve been sweating. I’m not sure what I think about the weight loss, besides me being more conscious to take vitamin supplements (vitamin milk), to supplement my bread and milk diet.

The class was expensive as heck, costing 390 baht (~$12) for one class. The gym I went to was alright, called Skykick Gym. Too touristy and not enough “real” Thai fighters for me to want to make it my gym. Besides, I plan on going to Bangkok early next month to seek employment as a TEFL teacher. I don’t feel comfortable dropping a lot of cash without money coming in in conjunction.
